Edward Gorey has a very distinctive artistic style, and a rather sick sense of humor.  I like him for that.

Was Edgar Allan Poe a hack or the most masterful American writer?  Somewhere in between if you ask me, but he does have an impressive body of work and quite a few devoted fans.
