THE WOLF

Wolves in nature are a fascinating social predator; in our culture wolves are a mythic primal force seen with fear and awe.  Some see them as an embodiment of all that is free and wild, others as a demon that steals life and livelihood.  There are lots of pages with new-agey fluff, and I've tried to avoid those.

Red Wolves (Canis rufus) are native to the southeastern United States.  Great efforts have been made to maintain small populations in the wild. Alligator River is one of the more successful attempts.

The Dire Wolf (Canis dirus) a large now-extinct wolf, left many fossils in the la Brea tarpits.

The Wolf Society of Great Britain strives to increase public awareness of the true nature of wolves and facilitate education which will lead to increased tolerance and understanding where wolves and humans co-exist.

The InternationalWolf Center supports the survival of the wolf around the world by teaching about its life, its association with other species and its dynamic relationship to humans.
